Ramadan Activities
Ramadan is a muslim holiday. It is celebrated on a different date in April every year starting at sundown and ends in late April or early March, depending on the year. Holi Activities
The Indian calendar determines Holi’s date and changes every year. It is normally celebrated in March of the Gregorian Calendar, but occasionally occurs in late February! This holiday is observed on the last full moon day of Purnima of the month of Falgun, 12th Hindu calendar month. Holi is a Hindu holiday that welcomes spring and is known as a festival full of color and happiness meant to be a time for new beginnings and a fresh start! During this celebration, colored paint called gulal is thrown in the air and people get covered in rainbow powder! Harmony Day in Australia Activities
Harmony Day in Australia was first celebrated in 1999. It is now celebrated on March 21st annually in Australia and worldwide! Australia was once a divided society with racism and hate which led to a study enforced by the Australian government. This study resulted in a conclusion stating that there is a need for people to live in harmony, later resulting in the holiday known as Harmony Day! Mardi Gras is a holiday which takes place in either late February or early March celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday every year. The Iditarod (3/5) Activities
The Iditarod is celebrated on March 5th every year. It is an annual race where dogs pull sleds on snow and compete against each other! This 938 mile race takes place in the Alaskan wilderness. It’s so difficult that some dogs don’t make it to the finish line due to injury or even death. This is a good day to teach your students about this well-known race and the history of it. National Cereal Day (3/7) Activities
National Cereal Day is celebrated on March 7th every year to celebrate and appreciate the yummy and quick breakfast option! Cereal comes in a variety of brands, flavors, and textures including some classics such as Lucky Charms, Cheerios, Chex, Cocoa Puffs, and Captain Crunch! This is the perfect day for a class cereal party where the class can eat their favorite cereal for breakfast and sample some new brands and flavors. Harriet Tubman is an anti-slavery activist who was born into slavery but escaped! Tubman was not a selfish individual and wanted to help others escape the horrible life they were living. She used the Underground Railroad to rescue around 70 people! This is the perfect day to educate your students about the importance of Harriet Tubman through read alouds, videos and activities.
National Pack Your Lunch Day (3/10) Activities
National Pack Your Lunch Day is celebrated on March 10th every year. This is a day dedicated to packing your own lunch and bringing your favorite homemade meal or sandwich to school or work! This is the perfect day to encourage your students the night before March 10th to go home and pack their own special lunch for school to celebrate National Pack Your Lunch Day. You can have your class eat their special lunch that they packed during a classroom lunch party!
National Plant a Flower Day (3/12) Activities
Celebrate National Plant a Flower Day on March 12th. It’s a special day that is celebrated every year in the United States. This is a day to encourage people to go outside and plant a flower in their yard, or help garden your town to spread color and positivity! K9 Veterans Day (3/13) Activities
K9 Veterans Day is celebrated on March 13th every year and is a day dedicated to honoring our incredible dog heroes who put their lives at risk when going to work everyday. These dogs have served since World War II and deserve to be thanked and acknowledged for their hard work and dedication to this country! This is the perfect day to learn about some of these special K9’s stories along with writing a thank you note as a class or donating dog toys, treats or food to honor and thank these furry friends!
March Madness Activities
March Madness is the start of the Division 1 college basketball tournament in the United States, which occurs every year during the third week of March. This is a very popular TV event where people all around the U.S. watch the best players in college basketball compete in the single-elimination tournament for their school to win the winning title. This is a popular sports betting tournament where people create brackets to predict who’s going to win each game, so this is the perfect time to incorporate this idea in your classroom! Student’s can create their own March Madness bracket, along with incorporating this idea into an educational lesson about predicting, organization, and the math behind it! You can also create a bulletin board with a bracket on it and have students vote each day which book is their favorite in order to pick your next read aloud. Daylight Savings (3/13) Activities
Daylight Savings takes place in March every year with varying dates. It is the day when the clocks advance one hour so that summer time afternoons become longer and brighter! This begins at 2:00 AM. All automatic clocks go back an hour. Physical clocks, on the other hand, need to be adjusted to the new time. This is the perfect day to educate your students on Daylight Savings and why all the clocks just randomly changed when they woke up for school!
Pi Day (3/14) Activities
Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th every year. It is a celebration of the math constant known as pi, 3.141596…, or π. Many people eat pie as a dessert on this day. March 14th is the chosen day for this annual event because the first three digits in pi are 3.14 and March 14 is also written as 3/14! Pi Day is the perfect day to celebrate math in your classroom while also eating the yummy and delicious desert known as pie!
International Day of Mathematics (3/14) Activities
International Day of Mathematics is celebrated on March 14th and is just another name for pi day! On this day people celebrate math, specifically the mathematical function known as pi, 3.141596, or π. This is the perfect day to eat pie while doing some math and to encourage your students to celebrate and enjoy math and understand the importance of it!
National Shoe the World Day (3/15) Activities
Celebrate National Shoe the World Day on March 15th. It is a day that brings attention to the importance of shoes, while also bringing up the issue of poverty where many people can’t afford shoes. Shoes are protectants for our feet and are so important to keep us safe and healthy, while also being a great and fun everyday accessory. This is the perfect day to have your students wear their favorite shoes to school and teach them about the importance of National Shoe The World day. National Panda Day (3/16) Activities
National Panda Day is celebrated on March 16th every year and a day dedicated to pandas! Pandas are adorable, soft, white and black colored bears who are one of the world’s most endangered animals. This is the perfect day to explore the life of panda bears with your students while also teaching them the importance of helping save our endangered wildlife. International Global Recycling Day (3/18) Activities
International Global Recycling Day occurs every year on March 18th! This is a day dedicated to promoting the idea and the importance of recycling around the world and to encourage people to start being more eco-friendly! Recycling helps our planet and some helpful things you can do to celebrate International Global Recycling Day in your classroom is to watch a video, read aloud a book about recycling, or even go on a class walk and pick up trash like plastic bottles to recycle! Another great International Global Recycling Day activity would be to reuse a plastic bottle and make it into a plant holder for each kid to bring home and watch their little plant grow! International Read to Me Day (3/19) Activities
Celebrate International Read to Me Day on March 19th. It is a day to encourage adults, parents, teachers and guardians to read to their children! Reading aloud to children is one of the most beneficial activities you can do and studies show that students who are read to 3-4 times a week are 6 months ahead of students getting read to only once or twice a week! This is the perfect day to read a book to your class and encourage parents and guardians to start their own night read aloud traditions!
National Poultry Day (3/19) Activities
National Poultry Day occurs on March 19th every year! This is a day to appreciate the birds raised for their meat and eggs and acknowledge the importance of poultry. Some common birds included in this category are turkey, ducks, geese, and the most popular is chicken! This is the perfect day to read aloud books with animal characters that fall within this category.
Spring Equinox (3/20) Activities
Spring Equinox is March 20th. It is the first day of spring (in the Northern Hemisphere). The Spring Equinox is when the sun’s rays hit the Earth’s equator before crossing into the Northern Hemisphere, meaning that the northern hemisphere is starting to experience spring while the southern hemisphere is starting to experience fall. This is the perfect time to educate your students on the significance of the Spring Equinox and encourage them to explore the fascinating astronomical events that also occur when the seasons change! World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on March 21st every year. It is a day to celebrate the amazingness and uniqueness of people with down syndrome! Celebrate World Water Day on March 22nd. It is a day to appreciate water! This annual holiday helps people appreciate natural and needed resources like water that many people don’t have access to. National Puppy Day (3/23) Activities
Celebrate National Puppy Day on March 23rd. National Puppy Day appreciates the overload of cuteness while also bringing awareness to the many puppies who don’t have a home and live in a shelter. This is the perfect day for a show and tell to let students volunteer and share a photograph of their current puppy or their dog when they were a puppy! Wear a Hat Day is a national day that encourages people to wear a fun hat while also acting as a fundraiser to raise money for a cure for brain cancer. This event specifically occurs in the UK but can be celebrated all over the world as a fun excuse to wear your favorite silly hat, or to spread awareness for an important cause. Purple Day is celebrated on March 26th. It is a day dedicated to the beautiful color purple, while also bringing awareness and supporting epilepsy. The color purple is associated with epilepsy which is a scary disorder which causes seizures to randomly occur.
