September Read Alouds for Elementary Teachers in 2024

Are you looking for some September read alouds to add to your classroom library? Interactive read alouds are one of my favorite September activities for kids! Below you will find some great titles that I have enjoyed reading to my students as well as my own children at home during the month of September.

1. Picture Day Books

Every year at the beginning of the school year students get their pictures taken on Picture Day! This list of Picture Day Books is perfect for the days leading up to this special day! Titles included on this list are Bedhead, Picture Day Perfection and On Account of the Gum.

2. Children’s Books about Recess

As students are transitioning back to school, it’s important to teach expectations surrounding recess. What better way is there than through picture books? Some stories included on this list of Children’s Books about Recess are The Recess Queen and Rulers of the Playground.

3. Hispanic Heritage Month Books
