1. The Squirrels Who Squabbled by Rachel Bright

In the story The Squirrels Who Squabbled the forest creatures were preparing to hibernate for the winter. Cyril wakes up and realizes winter is coming and he hasn’t stored away any food. He sees one pinecone left and decides it has to be is. Bruce also sees the pinecone and even though he is prepared for winter and has plenty of food, he decides that he needs the pinecone, too. The two squirrels fight over the pinecone.

They are so busy chasing and arguing over the pinecone that they bump into a bear and get chased by a big bird. They even fall into a fast moving river. The squirrels help each other climb out of the water and decide that they have been acting silly over the pinecone. The two squirrels become friends and share food for the winter.

3. Those Darn Squirrels by Adam Rubin

Old Man Fookwire is as old as they come. He doesn’t like puppies, and he doesn’t like pie. One thing he does love are birds. To him, birds are interesting and they keep him company.

One day, he decides to continually feed the birds to stop them from migrating in the winter. But with food, comes the squirrels. Old Man Fookwire tries to stop the squirrels from eating all the food from the birds, but they keep strategizing and finding ways to get it.

Eventually, the birds migrate and the old man is miserable. The squirrels begin to feel guilty, so they try to find ways to cheer him up. They give him money and arcade coins, but he is still sad. Then, they disguise themselves as birds and get a laugh out of Old Man Fookwire. Maybe these squirrels aren’t so bad afterall!
