2. February Writing Prompts
In addition to our weekly paragraph of the week, my students love our monthly writing prompts. On the first of the month, I debut the new writing journals and introduce the choices of writing topics that are month specific. They really look forward to it!
In order to prep the February writing prompts, I print a thematic cover and writing stationary for each student. They really enjoy coloring the covers during snack or indoor recess. I print a copy of all the February journal prompts to include in their journal as well. Some teachers choose to print just a color version to display in the classroom. Others make the writing prompt cards available in a writing center. You can decide what works best for you!
At the end of the month, I put each student’s writing into a booklet with the cover on top. They select one piece from the month to edit and publish. They are a great way to show how much progress they are making as writers throughout the year. Parents really appreciate the keepsake of their work as well!
3. Winter Olympics Writing Activities
These Winter Olympics writing activities are open-ended.
