THE NIGHT BEFORE THE 100TH DAY OF SCHOOL SUMMARY

It is the 100th day of school and everyone is bringing in 100 of something to celebrate. The main character still has to come up with an idea because all of his classmates have already decided. There will be 100 photos, pencils, cars, stars, and marbles. The boy wants to bring in something unique.

He starts by lining up his toy dinosaurs but only counts forty-nine. He comes up short when counting his coins too. As the boy looks around his room for inspiration, his eyes land on his ant farm. He has 100 and no one else will bring ants to school! He is so excited and dreams of ants that night.

The next day when the boy gets to school, his class is ready for the party. There is even a big cake to celebrate! The teacher has students come up to the front of the room to share what they’ve brought in. Finally, it is the main characters turn. When he walks up to the front of the room, he trips on a marble! The ant farm falls and all of the ants escape!

The boy uses crumbs to guide the ants back to the farm. The class works as a team to get all 100 ants back into the container. Finally, once the last ant is collected, it is time for cake!
