Below is a list of some of our favorite Pig the Pug activities to share with elementary students. Check them out!

1. Pig the Pug by Aaron Blabey

The book Pig the Pug is about a dog named Pig. Pig is selfish and greedy and does not like to share. Whenever Trevor, the other dog in the house, suggested that Pig share his toys, Pig would yell at him. Pig would say that he never ever will share his toys and that they are all his.

One day, Pig loses his mind when Trevor suggests he share his toys. Pig gathers all of his toys into a pile, and stands on top them of yelling down at Trevor. He tells Trevor that now Trevor will never have any toys and all the toys belong to him. Unfortunately, the pile of toys wobbles and Pig falls out the window. He ends up hurting his entire body and being in a full body cast. Now that he is the cast, he can’t stop Trevor from playing with the toys.

Pig learns that it would have been a lot less painful if he had just shared his toys to begin with. Check out these Pig the Pug teaching resources and activities to help you plan and deliver highly engaging read aloud lessons!

2. Pig the Winner by Aaron Blabey

The story Pig the Winner is about Pig the Pug who hates to lose. He always has to win and will cheat to make sure he wins. When Pig loses he has temper tantrums and cries so much that everyone just lets him think that he wins.

One day Pig challenges Trevor to who can eat their dinner the fastest. Pig eats his dinner so quickly that he even swallows his food bowl. Trevor helps get the food bowl out and it flies out of Pig’s mouth and hits him in the head knocking him into the garbage can.

Pig learns that it is okay to not win all the time and that it is important to play games fairly. Check out these Pig the Winner teaching resources and activities to help you plan and deliver highly engaging read aloud lessons!

3. Pig the Slob by Aaron Blabey

Pig the Pug is becoming quite the slob! He is an immovable lump on the couch, and even the smallest tasks are too hard!

Pig spends his days bingeing tv and feasting on nuggets. He just swipes his phone, plays video games, and eats ice cream. When Trevor tries to bring Pig outside, he ignores him.

That is… he ignores him until the floorboards start to groan! All of a sudden, the floor explodes and Pig goes down. From that day on, Pig learned that he needs to exercise and be healthy.

Pig the Pug is at it again! He cannot travel anywhere, as disasters follow everywhere he goes! From carivals to historic places, Pig creates devastation. He is disrespectful and rude to the locals. He does not follow rules and expectations.

That is, until one day he goes swimming where he is not supposed to go. Ignoring the sign, Pig dives in and gets bitten by piranhas! That day, he learned an important lesson. Now, he does not ruin all holidays, but still does not travel well.
