Below is a list of some of our favorite rabbit picture books to share with elementary students. Check them out!

1. The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld

One day, Taylor decides to build a tower with her blocks. It turns out amazing and she is proud of her work, when suddenly her tower is knocked down. First, a chicken comes to see Taylor and suggests that she talk about it, but Taylor doesn’t want to so the chicken leaves. More animals come to visit Taylor and they all have a suggestion for her. When Taylor does not want to try their suggestions, the animals leave. 

Finally, a rabbit comes along and sits quietly next to Taylor. The two sit in silence until Taylor asks the rabbit to stay with her. Eventually, Taylor starts talking, then laughing, and using all of the previous suggestions. She decides she is going to rebuild the tower and that it will be amazing.

2. Those Pesky Rabbits by Ciara Flood

The story, Those Pesky Rabbits, is about a bear that lives in the middle of nowhere and enjoys being alone. One day, a family of rabbits moves in and they build their house right next to Bear’s. This makes Bear very angry. Soon after they move in, the rabbits start visiting Bear at his house. 

First, they ask for honey to bake a cake, then they ask for Bear to help them chop wood, and then they asked if he’d like to swap books. Each time Bear gets angry at the rabbits and does not help them. Finally, the rabbits ask if Bear wants to look at the stars with them. Furious, Bear tells the rabbits he just wants to be left alone. One day, Bear hears a soft knock at the door and finds a note and basket from the rabbits. After receiving the basket, Bear realizes he has been feeling lonely and decides to visit the rabbits. 

In the end, Bear realizes that he enjoys spending time with his new neighbors.

3. Wolfie the Bunny by Ame Dyckman

Wolfie the Bunny is about a bunny named Dot and her family who find a baby wolf bundled on their doorstep. Dot’s parents take in Wolfie and raise him as their own child but Dot is skeptical. She keeps telling her parents and anyone that will listen that Wolfie is going to eat them all up. She doesn’t trust him.

Then one day Dot and Wolfie go to the Carrot Patch to get more food. They run into a bear and the bear takes Wolfie to eat him. Dot stands up for Wolfie and tells the bear that she is going to eat him up. She scares the bear away and saves Wolfie. Dot changes her mind about Wolfie and finally calls him her brother.

4. Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems

In this story, Trixie and her father have an errand to do and Trixie brings her favorite stuffed animal, Knuffle Bunny. They go to the laundromat and Trixie gets to help her father by putting clothes and money into the machine. As they walk home, Trixie realizes that Knuffle Bunny is missing. She can’t talk yet so she tries to show her father how unhappy she is by crying, but he doesn’t understand.

When they arrive home, Trixie’s mother asks where Knuffle Bunny is and her father finally realizes why she was so upset. The family runs back to the laundromat and looks everywhere for the stuffed animal. When they find it, Trixie is so excited she says her first words, Knuffle Bunny!
