3. The Paper Kingdom by Helena Ku Rhee

The Paper Kingdom by Helena Ku Rhee is about a boy named Daniel who goes to work with his parents at night. Daniel’s parents are janitors at an office building and Daniel doesn’t have a babysitter so he goes with them to clean instead of going to sleep.

Daniel is so tired and wants to go home very badly. His parents tell him that he is in The Paper Kingdom and that this is where the Paper King, queen and dragons live. This keeps Daniel distracted and entertained as they travel to different places in the kingdom.

Daniel needs to be patient while waiting for his parents but he also starts to get upset. He doesn’t like seeing his parents clean up big messes by themselves that other people made. His parents remind him to be kind and tell him that if he wants to change things he should be king one day. Daniel goes home and finally falls asleep.
