Below is a list of some of our favorite camping read alouds. Check them out below!

1. Who Wet My Pants? by Bob Shea

Who Wet My Pants? by Bob Shea is about a bear named Reuben. Reuben arrives at his campsite with donuts for all of his friends, when he realizes his pants are wet. Reuben immediately starts asking his friends who wet his pants. The other animals deny wetting Reuben’s pants, and try to make him feel okay about wetting his pants. They say that it can happen to anyone and that they used to wet their pants too. Even so, Reuben still won’t admit he wet his pants. He says that all he did that day was help out at a lemonade stand, walk by a waterfall, and take a nap with his hand in a fish tank. At the end of the story, Reuben declares that his pants must be wet because his pants are broken and have sprung a leak.

2. Fatima’s Great Outdoors by Ambreen Tariq

Fatima’s Great Outdoors by Ambreen Tariq is about how Fatima’s family had moved from India to the United States. While her sister talked about all of her successes, Fatima struggled with school and friends.

One weekend, Fatima’s family picked them up from school and tried a new American pastime: camping! They drove to a state park, built their tent, cooked dinner, and slept under the stars. In the morning, they even got to have beef bacon and build a fire! Fatima is sad to go home, as she knows that her family will be busy again working two jobs. She does, however, get to share her adventure with her class on Show-and-Tell day!

3. The Night Before Summer Vacation by Natasha Wing

The Night Before Summer Vacation by Natasha Wing tells the story of a family preparing for a trip. Everyone is excited on the night before they leave on vacation. The father has made a list of everything they need to bring while the mom packs everything they’ll need for s’mores. The children help bring everything out to the car: helmets, a canoe and oars, a raft and bike. They bring suitcases down from the attic and pack their summer clothes inside.

Once everything is together, the family starts to pack the car. They stuff everything inside the shell on top until it is ready to burst! After packing the family eats dinner ands looks through old scrapbooks of past vacations before heading off to bed. The next morning, everyone wakes up early! The car is packed and they rush out before it bursts! However, as they’re driving down the street the little girl realizes they’ve left the dog at home! The family must turn around to get Pete before driving off again!
